Used Caravans

I recently decided to buy my first caravan. Now you might be thinking that this isn’t exactly the most inspiring subject to be writing about however I quickly realised that purchasing a caravan isn’t without its pitfalls. It didn’t take long to realise that you would have to be a sandwich short to part with ridiculous money for a brand new one when there are plenty of very good, nearly new used caravans on the market at a much more wallet friendly price.

After eventually deciding upon the most suitable caravan for my requirements i.e the right dimensions for my gateway, the right configuration and most importantly, a caravan within my vehicles towing weight limit, I started trawling through the classifieds. I found a perfect example almost immediately at an amazing price. I contacted the seller and I couldn’t believe my luck that it was still available. I arranged a viewing and the following day I set off for a closer inspection. I met the seller on the street on which he told me he lived. I found the caravan parked on the road and found the seller sat in his car. I immediately started to feel a little suspicious. Why wasn’t the caravan on the drive and why wasn’t he in his house? I took a look around the caravan and whilst it looked in very good condition I couldn’t shake the feeling that something wasn’t right. I made a note of the details and told the seller that I had one or two more to view. He seemed a bit taken aback that I hadn’t even made an offer and he even offered to reduce the price a little for a quick sale. I stood firm and at that point he seemed to get a little angry but I quickly made my exit whilst promising to contact him once I had viewed the others.

Using the details I conducted a CRiS check and soon found out why the caravan was so cheap and why he was in a hurry to get rid of it. Not only was the registered name different to the one he gave me but the caravan had recently been reported as stolen. I passed on the details to the police and was thankful that I had trusted my instincts.
I’m still looking out for a good example. I’m also investigating different caravan insurance policies. But what ever happens, I won’t be purchasing without first checking the history.
